The Statistics and Econometrics Committee of the Polish Academy of Sciences operates within the structure of the 1st Department of Social Sciences of the Polish Academy of Sciences. It was established in 1972. The task of the Committee is to stimulate the development of the disciplines of statistics and econometrics in Poland and to promote the theory and practice of the achievements of Polish statistical and econometric thought among other scientific circles.

 

1. Analyzing and assessing the state of science as well as expressing opinions on matters of the state's scientific policy, especially development directions and research priorities in the disciplines represented in the Committee.

2. Collaboration with government bodies, in particular with the Ministry of Science and Information Technology, the State Accreditation Committee, the Central Statistical Office, the Minister of National Education and Sport, and the General Council of Higher Education in matters relating to the assessment of the condition, level, research priorities and directions of development of the disciplines represented by Committee.

3. Initiating research, creating and developing scientific institutions in the disciplines represented in the Committee and evaluating research programs and the scope of activities of scientific institutions at the request of government bodies and the authorities of the Polish Academy of Sciences supervising these institutions.

4. Co-operation in disseminating research and scientific results and introducing research results in the disciplines represented in the Committee into social and economic practice, organizing, inter alia, discussions and scientific conferences.

5. Developing, at the request of government bodies, the authorities of the Polish Academy of Sciences and on its own initiative, expert opinions and scientific advice and presenting scientific opinions on matters covered by the Committee's scope of activity and issues particularly important for the socio-economic and cultural development of the country.

6. Assessing and expressing opinions on the level and needs of scientific publishers in the field of sciences represented in the Committee and conducting publishing activities.

7. Analyzing and evaluating educational plans and programs, expressing opinions on the matters of educating scientific staff and carrying out activities stimulating participation in the scientific life of the country and ensuring the development of young academic staff in the areas covered by the Committee's scope of activity.

8. Opinion on candidates for correspondent members of the Polish Academy of Sciences in the disciplines represented by the Committee.

9. Submitting and reviewing applications for scientific awards in the disciplines represented by the Committee.
